Riding Tutors
In an effort to make the whole process of training as easy as possible we aim to give you as much information as possible. This is your chance to see who our observers and also a little bit about them. We are a friendly bunch and look forward to training you.

Carl CalvertCarl passed his 'bike licence in 1963 having attended the 3 months RAC/ACU rider's scheme. A BSA 250cc C15 gave way to a couple of BSA bikes and then an MZ 250cc which he had for many years. The 'bike just worked. A first BMW r60/6 was bought in 1999 and since then he has ridden BMWs (they too, just work). He started Advanced training in 2002 and gained Gold and then The Advanced Diploma. If he has a mantra: it's 'knowing why you are in that part of the road, doing that speed?'. |
Kevin ColemanKev started riding in 1992, at 16, and has been on two wheels since. Most of his riding is for social reasons, running up over 20,000 last year, with the odd commute. His current bike is a BMW K1300R. In 2012, Kev joined the IAM and in the following year joined RoSPA, where he gained a Gold Grade Pass. As a motorcyclist, he feels that there is always something more to learn. |
Stuart DoreyStuart holds a ROSPA Gold Grade Pass in motorcycling. He has been riding motorcycles for about 12 years and this has become his favoured mode of transport both socially and for work Stuart has also been Observer for the IAM for the last 2 years. He rides a BMW R12200GS Adventure. |
Bill GibbsBill holds a gold pass for car and bike. He also has test passes for both vehicles with the IAM and is currently one of their bike observers. His present bike is a BMW R1200RT on which he tours in the UK and abroad. |
Vince HallI've been riding motorcycles since I was 15 and passed my test on a 250 two stroke which gives you an idea of my age. Rospa Gold pass in 2009 and continuing the theme with 3 yearly re-tests. Also an IAM green badge holder since 1994, Solent Adavanced Motorcylists Advanced Plus (1st) and an IAM Masters certificate holder. A National Observer for the IAM and Tutor for ROSPA keep me on my toes and on the bike. If it's dry and warm you meet me on my S1000R, cold and wet I'll be on the old workhorse Pan ST1300. Either way it'll be an enjoyable ride. |
